Welcome to Sound of the Blues.
We feature song clips from Perry Freeman's Sound of the Blues, the five-song concept album that introduced Chicago Country Blues. This album was recorded after Perry's Rosin Up Your Bow, which is the album of traditional country music and country blues that inspired Chicago Country Blues.
Essentially, after writing and singing the songs on Rosin Up Your Bow, Perry continued to write country music and country blues, but he also returned to his electric guitar playing. In doing this, he began to incorporate blues lead guitar into the next handful of country songs that would become Sound of the Blues.
The result was the emergence of a new style of country and blues, called Chicago Country Blues, in which the sound of an electric blues guitar is heard alongside the sound of an acoustic rhythm guitar - - like the following passage from our title song, "Sound of the Blues..."

When Perry combined country music songwriting with the blues guitar approach, it was also the emergence of Sound of the Blues as a concept album, in which the songwriting and performances sought to capture the bittersweet nature of life, love, and music.
